Research data – Dryad

Upload of research/primary data

Before the final submission of the manuscript files, the author is invited to deposit the data underlying the manuscript in the Dryad Data Repository.

Background

German Medical Science supports the Open Data movement and invites its authors to make materials, data and associated protocols available for the public. For this purpose, GMS cooperates with Dryad which is is both an international repository of data underlying peer-reviewed scientific and medical literature, and a membership organization, governed by journals, publishers, scientific societies, and other stakeholders.

Consent to the data upload

If you agree to deposit data for your manuscript, the manuscript metadata will be transferred to Dryad. You will receive an email with a link taking you directly to the Dryad record for your article, so you won't have to re-enter its bibliographic information, and can upload your files directly. Please note that the data description has to be in English langugage.

As soon as you upload a data package, it will be attributed a digital object identifier (DOI) which will be sent to you and the editorial office of GMS. If your data pass the Dryad curation and your manuscript is accepted for publication in the GMS journal, the DOI will be included in the article publication. We prefer the data to be available already during the review process, so the reviewer will get access to it and may include its evaluation in his review. The data will only be published after acceptation and publication of the article. If the manuscript is rejected, the data stay available for a possible submission to another journal during one year. More information about depositing data in Dryad is available at http://www.datadryad.org/depositing.

Please have a look on our tutorial The GMS publication service and the DRYAD research data repository.

Special advantage: The German National Library of Medicine currently takes over the costs for a data upload related to gms manuscripts.

If you are not fully sure to take advantage of the upload possibility, go ahead and choose “yes”. You do not enter into a legal commitment for making your data available, but in case you can use your metadata entry.

Refusal of the data upload

If you refuse to deposit the data, you will be asked for reasons. This helps us to evaluate our offer. Your decision concerning the data upload does not influence the evaluation of your manuscript.

For further information please send an email to the GMS editorial office (gms@zbmed.de).
